Sarah Barker Ball, president, grew up in and lives in Newport, OR. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, and a Master of Music in Music Education at the University of Oregon. She is currently an online doctoral student at Boston University. Her private studio is in Newport where she has taught piano since 1980. She initiated the formation of Lincoln County OMTA and is now serving again as president. She taught music in Lincoln County School District for many years, and also co-directed the Lincoln Youth Chorale, a county-wide children’s choir. Jessica Treon, vice president, lives in Seal Rock, OR. She teaches in Seal Rock and Florence. She has a Bachelor of Music in piano pedagogy and has 30 years teaching experience. Jessie specializes in music for preschool children in her "Polly Panda Music" program which engages students age 2-4 in pre-piano lessons. Graduates of Polly Panda progress to Kinder Keyboards. Don Jenkins, secretary, is originally from Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Illinois State and a Masters in Music from San Diego State. For several years he was a member of the Navy band. Before moving to Lincoln County he taught music in California. He taught in several locations in Lincoln County including Waldport Middle School. He retired from there many years ago and is now teaching privately. For many years he has held the positions as organist and Director of Music at the First Church in Newport. Rita Warton, treasurer, lives in Neotsu, OR. She grew up in New Zealand and received her musical education at Auckland University. She believes that an early musical education improves a child's ability to learn throughout his or her life. After moving to Lincoln City in 1988, she decided to fulfill her early musical training, joined the OMTA, and has been teaching piano ever since. She also plays the organ, belongs to Kiwanis, is the accompanist for Lincoln Community Chorus, and works with senior citizens. E-mail: mwarton@wcn.net
Jill Baker lives in Newport, OR, and teaches voice and beginning piano. She graduated from Ball State University, IN, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. She was a member of the University Singers, a nation-wide touring group for the University. She taught music in elementary schools in Massachusetts. She was a member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus for 14 years, during which time the Chorus recorded many CDs and received two Grammy Awards. Locally she served as assistant music director for the Porthole Players production of "The Secret Garden" and "Damn Yankees". She is assistant Music Director of the Central Coast Chorale and for several years also held that position with the Lincoln Youth Chorale. She is past president of the CCC. Suzanne Brown succumbed to breast cancer at her home on February 20, 2008. She taught piano and French horn in Newport after moving to the Oregon coast in 1996. She was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. She was active both in OMTA and in the Bay Music Association.
Cherylann Buckley, immediate past president, has been a member since 1990 and has been teaching piano and guitar since 1984. She received her music education at the Boston Conservatory of Music in Massachusetts and is State certified in Oregon with OMTA. She studied music and business for two years at Orange County Community College in California and took voice instruction through the University of Oregon. She was the music director for many years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newport and most recently at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Waldport. Tony Holly lives in Newport, OR, and teaches guitar on the central Oregon coast. He holds a BA degree in classical guitar performance from California State University, Stanislaus, CA, and an AA degree from Modesto Junior College where he graduated with honors, receiving three scholarships. In 1992 he received a Music Technology Certificate, specializing in Midi Technology and Music Software from Cogswell Polytechnical College in Cupertino, CA. In 1996 he was certified in the Suzuki Guitar Method. He has performed both as a soloist and in chamber settings for more than 20 years. Before moving to Newport he was a member of the faculty at Modesto Junior College where he was instructor of guitar and also taught classes in the history of American popular music. He has taught many styles of guitar but says classical guitar has proven to be the most challenging and rewarding. Dr. Jeannine Jordan has been active as a teacher and concert artist since 1975. She has taught over 800 organ and piano students of all ages and levels from beginning children and adults through those pursuing graduate level performance degrees. For 25 years she was as an adjunct professor at the University of Portland teaching organ, harpsichord, class piano and other fine arts and education courses. Jeannine has concertized throughout the United States and the world and has released three recordings. She has served as a church musician for over forty years and is currently the organist at Chapel-by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church in Lincoln City, Oregon. Jeannine’s degrees include a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music degree from the University of Oregon and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Portland. Dr. Mary Lee Scoville lives in Waldport, Or. She is a native of Oregon and received Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degrees from Oregon State University. She received a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music composition and theory from the University of Oregon. While living in Stockton, California, she taught at the University of the Pacific and Stanislaus State. She now teaches piano and classical guitar in Newport and Waldport and is an on site instructor in Music at the Oregon Coast Community College. She has been the Music Director of the Central Coast Chorale since its inception in 1997 and directs adult and youth handbell choirs. She directs the Contemporary Choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newport, and plays organ at St Stephen and St Luke's Episcopal Churches Newport and Waldport. She has directed orchestras in support of local theater productions, including the Pothole Players production of the "The Secret Garden" and "Damn Yankees" and Stephen Sondheims' "Into The Woods." Jess Smith lives in Seal Rock, OR, where he teaches piano. Prior to coming to Oregon he lived for 40 years in New York City. There he was an administrator and teacher at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music from 1957-1988, serving as its Executive Director from 1977-1988. He performed as solo pianist and concert accompanist in New York and New England. His education includes a Bachelor of Music degree with honors from the University of Puget Sound, post-graduate study with Rosinna Lhevinne at the Los Angeles Conservatory and at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Nicole Sylvia is a student teacher. She is 17 years old and a senior at Newport High School. She has played piano for 5 years under the instruction of Jerry-Ann Olson and Cherylann Buckley. She played clarinet for 1 year in the school band, and guitar for 2 years under the instruction of Cherylann Buckley. She has been a member of several choirs in the past 5 years. Judy Wales lives in Florence, OR. She grew up in New York City and began piano lessons before age 7. She attended the New York High School of Music and Art, Ithaca College for two years, the Manhattan School of Music, where she earned the degrees of Bachelor of Music (Piano Major) and Master of Music (Education Major). After a 37-year secondary teaching career in music, English and reading, she retired in 1997. Judy now teaches piano privately to a small group of talented students in Florence. She also adjudicates for the National Guild of Piano Teachers and the Oregon Music Teachers Association. Judy is founder of the Community Chorus of Florence. She also plays for many concerts, shows and community events.
